Volunteer Spotlight - Helen Borgwardt

Volunteer Spotlight

Helen Borgwardt has been a Polk Senior Games volunteer for 6 years – since 2009. She volunteers year round for Polk Senior Games. She works in the office every Tuesday mostly on the computer updating databases for State Games qualifiers, rulebook mailings and emails. She was introduced to the Games by her downstairs neighbor Marie Gouldsbury. Marie had the year-round Tuesday volunteer job until her death in March of 2014.
Helen’s hometown is Plant City but she now lives in Lakeland. She loves travel, reading, outdoor sports like walking, biking, hiking, and swimming and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Helen also competes in the Games. She has won several medals but says her biggest accomplishment was winning the gold medal in the Boot Scootin’ Boogie in 2015.
Helen loves working with the other volunteers, making new friends and seeing the many participants having fun and enjoying the Games!
